Kente cloth originated in Ghan and consists of multi-colored thread loomed into intricate patterns embedded with embroidered designs, cultural symbolism and traditional history. Each design has its own unique symbolic value and often worn by African royalty, as a symbol of status, or for a festive occasion. Around the world, the unique patterns and colors are easily identifiable as a representation of West African culture.
