Breaks are good for the soul, especially living in this hustle culture. I once had a hustle mentality that left no room for breaks or time off – I was always on. In the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey, I was so eager to please customers and profit from my hard work that I gave up the power to govern my own time. In addition, I had a full-time job and felt guilty not being available for customers who were eager to see me and purchase my products. So, I made myself available often at unconventional times and unlikely places and did not set any boundaries. My evenings and weekends were jam-packed. I barely had time to make products during the day, so I would craft and sew through the wee hours of the night, way past midnight, not to mention caring for a newborn round the clock. I’ve since re-evaluated my capacity and limited my availability to ensure I follow self-care practices inclusive of healthy breaks.
So, Sister, take a break. Mini breaks, small breaks, long breaks, extended breaks – take them as often as you can. Even during your workday, break to stretch, meditate, drink tea, eat, and go to the bathroom. Besides, I surely hate to see you rushing to the bathroom and pulling your clothes down so fast and hard you end up breaking your beads!
